‘AI and the analysis of gender and education policies and curriculum documents: Reflections on a process using the AGEE Framework in Indonesia, Kenya and Malawi’ (2025), UNESCO Digital Learning Week, 2nd September 2025

During the UNESCO Digital Learning Week, from 2-5 September 2025, in Paris, the Bridging AGEE team presented a paper on the AI strand of the project, entitled ‘AI and the analysis of gender and education policies and curriculum documents: Reflections on a process using the AGEE Framework in Indonesia, Kenya and Malawi’. This presentation was part of a panel that involved other AI-focused projects. One issue was raised about the need to ensure trust in the process of curriculum scan using AI and reflect on the ethical issues around it. The webinar was attended by policy makers and government officials, innovators and academics and the event was live streamed with people participating from different countries online. The moderator of the session framed the presentation as directly touching on how AI is introduced in country contexts and the need for participatory approaches to ensure trust with policy actors. The audience also asked questions about the ethical issues around the work in an African context. The paper was presented by Ellen Weavers, AI technical consultant for the Bridging AGEE project, and the session was attended by other team members.
